Vineyard Management

  • We believe in continuous improvement towards balance with nature and sustainability in all practices.
  • We use Integrated Pest Management (IPM): a sustainable approach to managing pests by combining biological, cultural, and chemical tools in a way that minimizes economic, health, and environmental risks.
  • IPM in our vineyards includes understanding the ecology and dynamics of the crop, understanding the ecology and dynamics of pests and their natural enemies, instituting a monitoring program to assess levels of pests and beneficials, and emphasizing preventative, ecologically based methods first.
  • Lower risk pesticides are used whenever possible.
  • We practice conservation and monitoring of water use through drip irrigation.

Certified Sustainable Winery and Vineyards

  • Quady Winery became Certified Sustainable through the California Sustainable Winegrowing Association in July 2022
  • Our Black Muscat grapes are 92% Certified Sustainable through the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance
    • Elysium 2019 is made from 100% Certified Sustainable Black Muscat
  • Our Orange Muscat grapes are 87.5% Certified Sustainable

The Road to Carbon Neutrality

  • On average, annually 83% of our power is generated by solar energy panels on the winery roof.
  • We have plans to install solar panels which will generate over 100% of our energy needs by 2025 and allow us to feed energy back into the grid.
  • Organic waste from winemaking is composted on site and used in our estate vineyard.
  • Because we make primarily sweet wines the fermentation is arrested and very little CO2 is released as a result of the wine-making process.
  • We plan to install an electric vehicle charging station.
  • We plan to convert all winery vehicles to electric as they phase out of usefulness.
  • We are joining the Porto Protocol, an international group of wineries dedicated to taking action now to fight climate change and to sharing practices and innovations with one another.
  • As part of our sustainability self-assessment, we are assessing our carbon footprint so that we can make goals to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Water Conservation and Groundwater Protection

  • By the end of 2022 we plan to have in operation a new wastewater treatment system made utilizing worms to treat the winery’s process water rendering the water suitable for irrigation and vine nutrition in the vineyard, thereby both recycling our water and protecting our groundwater from nitrate contamination.
  • We use high pressure hoses and nozzles to make the most out of every drop.
